While it can be tempting to put off thinking about these important aspects of our twilight years, it’s better to tackle the matter head-on and proactively, so everyone is comfortable and knows exactly what to expect. Today, PAI Homecare takes a closer look at how to decide if care at home is right for you (or your senior) and how to arrange care once you have made your decision.
Deciding on care at home
Just as there are no cookie-cutter people, there’s no cookie-cutter solution to what approach to elder care will suit you or your loved one best. What works for friends or neighbours may not be the right care level for you, and some people will thrive in environments that will upset another. This means that one of the very first steps involved in deciding if at-home care is right for your loved one needs everyone to come together and properly evaluate both the best approach and the level of care required.
Care home environments can be a great choice for a senior who is social and outgoing, or a senior with little attachment to their current home. Someone who is looking for easy access to a community of seniors like themselves, feels up to the challenge of a changing environment, or needs the constant 24/7 onsite medical care offered in a frail care home could thrive in a care home environment.
On the contrary, a senior who is very attached to their home or neighbourhood would be best served looking at care at home. This is also a particularly great option for generally independent elders who simply need a hand here-and-there to keep life ticking over. If staying within the familiar boundaries of home, keeping to themselves or other considerations are in play, at home care offers an ideal environment to ensure the senior receives care and attention without the need to uproot their life and ‘start again’.
You’ll need to think carefully about the pros and cons of all styles of eldercare open to you before deciding on which avenue would be best to pursue. The answer will be as individual as each senior themselves- but know that creating a care plan that supports them is the end goal of everyone involved. We all want to see the clients in our care thrive in happy lives.
Starting your PAI Homecare journey
Once you’ve decided that care at home is the perfect way forward for you, it’s time to get started on the process. Firstly, you should know (for your own peace of mind) that all the care staff PAI Homecare employs are carefully selected, trained and vetted, so you will always have the complete peace of mind of knowing your carer can handle everything they need to. It’s a matter of finding the right match in personality and skill for your unique needs.
Get in touch
Your journey to at-home care will start with a simple call or email. Together, we’ll arrange a free consultation at a time that suits you. This enables us to get a better idea of the unique challenges you face, as well as your care needs.
The home visit
With this initial contact open, we will agree on a date and time, and one of our experienced managers will visit at the home. This will allow the senior and their carers to meet with PAI Homecare, as well as allow us to assess the care needs required.
Creating a care plan
Now we know more about you and the unique care needs in play, we will be properly empowered to create a care plan that suits. You will participate fully in this stage of the journey, shaping a comprehensive care plan that suits your needs and tastes.
Commencement of Support
With a plan in place and an agreement on the table, you will be allocated a carer who is best suited to the needs and care-areas we’ve outlined. They will be the primary person in charge of carrying out care for the senior, be that you yourself or a loved one. Support will commence and continue on your preferred schedule.
Starting your journey with PAI Homecare isn’t a complicated or drawn-out procedure. It’s a case of expertly vetting the care needs in play, and creating a bespoke plan that caters for each individual’s unique needs. If it’s time to get started on your own journey with us, why not reach out to us today?
